Tasmania -- Australian wilderness
Caring for Country

Travel that gives back
more than it takes.

Australia is one of the last great wildernesses on earth. We believe it is our privilege -- and our responsibility -- to help preserve it for the people who come after us.

Our Approach

Responsible tourism
is not optional for us --
it is foundational.

When we founded Aussie Grand Tours, we made a commitment that our growth would never come at the expense of the places, communities, and cultures that make Australia extraordinary.

We design every experience with three questions in mind: Does this support local people? Does it protect the natural environment? Does it authentically represent Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures?

We are working towards Ecotourism Australia's ECO Certification -- the country's recognised quality and sustainability standard, aligned with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

Leave No Trace, Always

We have adopted Leave No Trace principles across every programme we run -- a commitment shared across Australia's tourism industry to care for the land, for now and for future generations.

As part of this commitment, we encourage all our clients to:

🌿 Care for land, sea, and nature  ·  🛣️ Travel safely and thoughtfully  ·  🏠 Respect culture and community  ·  🔥 Reduce waste and leave no trace

How we operate

Our sustainability pillars

Every booking with Aussie Grand Tours is shaped by these four commitments.

🌿

Environmental Stewardship

We minimise our environmental footprint at every step and actively support conservation efforts across Australia.

  • Preference for electric and hybrid vehicles
  • Plastic-free picnic and catering options
  • Carbon offset contribution on all multi-day programmes
  • Avoid overcrowded sites -- access at off-peak times
  • Support Bush Heritage Australia and Landcare Australia projects
🏠

Aboriginal Culture & Community

We approach Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture with deep respect -- supporting authentic experiences that benefit communities directly.

  • Cultural experiences designed and led by Aboriginal-owned operators
  • Fees paid directly to Aboriginal-led businesses and communities
  • Client education on cultural protocols before visits
  • No cultural appropriation -- authentic over performative
  • Support for Aboriginal-owned accommodation and businesses
🤝

Local Economy First

We deliberately choose local, independent, and family-owned suppliers over large multinational chains wherever possible.

  • 90%+ of suppliers are Australian-owned businesses
  • Priority given to regional operators in each destination
  • Local guides from the communities we visit
  • Seasonal menus using Australian-grown and caught produce
  • Support for ECO-certified suppliers
♻️

Waste & Carbon

We are working to reduce and offset the carbon impact of all our programmes and eliminate single-use plastic from all client touchpoints.

  • Reusable water bottles provided on all private tours
  • Digital documents -- no unnecessary printing
  • Accommodation partners selected partly on waste practices
  • Working towards verified carbon-neutral programmes by 2026
  • Partnership with Greening Australia for reforestation

What we commit to on every booking

We brief every client on Leave No Trace principles and local conservation guidelines before travel.

We do not take groups to fragile sites during sensitive ecological periods (e.g. nesting or breeding season).

We select accommodation partners who actively manage energy use and waste reduction.

We pay every supplier promptly and fairly -- we do not squeeze local operators on price.

We employ and support local guides and prioritise Australian-resident guides for Australian programmes.

We report our sustainability progress annually and are transparent about areas still improving.

We provide a minimum 1% of revenue to Australian conservation organisations each year.

We actively discourage "bucket-list tourism" that damages natural or cultural sites.

Accreditation

Working towards ECO Certification

ECO Certification is Australia's official tourism sustainability standard, owned by Ecotourism Australia and aligned with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). We are actively progressing our application -- this certification is the benchmark of quality and sustainability that every serious Australian tourism operator should hold.

ECO-certified businesses are recognised by Tourism Australia, the Australian Tourism Export Council, and international travel trade bodies.
